Enjoy a braai at Crocworld Conservation Centre this Heritage Day | Marketing

Lush coastal forest, stunning sea views and a myriad of interesting animal species roaming the expansive grounds – Crocworld Conservation Centre is the perfect family spot for this year’s Heritage Day braai. And with its annual discounted rates, it is an opportunity not to be missed.

Only 40 kilometres south of Durban on KwaZulu-Natal’s stunning South Coast, the 24-hectare Crocworld is the ideal venue to keep the family entertained while enjoying the outdoors.

And this year, for the first time, the public not only enters for half price on Wednesday 24 September, but is also invited to braai within the park at one of four large communal braais conveniently located near the children’s play area.

When not attending to lunch, visitors can enjoy the reptile and bird park with a distinctly “botanical” feel or meander through the indigenous gardens, while children can visit the petting zoo or let loose in the playground area.

Reptile-lovers will be captivated by the 180 crocodiles – which includes four species - in the open-air enclosures and 15 species of venomous and non-venomous snakes within the snake tunnel.

Martin Rodrigues, manager of Crocworld Conservation Centre, said visitors will be able to catch the snake demonstration at 11.30am.

“This is entertaining and educational for the whole family to watch and learn,” said Martin.

The crocodile feeding and talk on crocodiles takes place at 11am and again at 3pm.

The grounds are also home to a wide variety of natural wildlife including Banded Mongoose, Blue Duiker, Bush Buck and Vervet Monkey. For those preferring the winged creatures, 200 species of wild birds have been identified at the centre, including the beautiful Narina Trogon and even a pair of Palm Nut Vultures.

“I think that it is a fantastic way to celebrate Heritage Day, as a family having a good time and gaining knowledge in the process. The half price special only happens once a year on Heritage Day and we hope that our local residents come to the centre and enjoy the day out,” said Martin.

People are welcome to bring a picnic basket and enjoy a picnic within the grounds of the park.

Alternatively visitors can dine at on-site restaurant, Le Rendez-Vous, while taking in its breathtaking 180-degree view of the ocean. Le Rendez-Vous will also be offering scrumptious Heritage Day specials including the Heritage Combo - 250g BBQ ribs and a homemade pattie topped with bacon, cheese and egg with chips for only R75. There is also the Heritage Lady Special which is a soft chicken fillet topped with creamy spinach and Danish feta served with chips or salad for only R65. Anyone ordering a special can add a small draught or glass of wine for R10. All alcoholic beverages are to be purchased from the restaurant.

All entrance into the park is half price on the day. The cost is R30 for adults, R20 for children and R22.50 for pensioners. The centre is open between 8am and 4.30pm.
